The one rule I gave the AI that runs my front door
My website used to be a brochure with a contact form. Now it has an operator — an AI called Naledi who answers, qualifies, and hands the lead to me. Here's how she works, the one rule she can't break, and why the front door is part of the machine, not decoration.
Build in public — Taigency series. 13 August 2026.
Most company websites are brochures. You read a bit, and if you're keen you fill in a form and wait. The front door doesn't do anything — it just holds the door open and hopes you walk through.
That always bothered me, because I sell the opposite of that. Taigency's whole thing is from built to paid — engineering the machine that turns a product into revenue. A dead contact form is the least "from built to paid" thing imaginable. So I fixed my own front door first.
Meet Naledi
There's now an operator on taigency.co.za. Her name is Naledi. Tap the button in the corner and you can just talk to her — ask what I do, what I've built, whether AI could help your business. She answers like a person, not a chatbot reading a script.
And if you're ready, she does the useful thing: she takes your name, your email and a line about what you need, and hands the whole enquiry straight to me. She does the qualifying; I do the deciding. That's the model I believe in — the machine handles the work, the human keeps the judgement.
The one rule
Here's the rule I care about most, the one she can't break: Naledi cannot make things up.
She won't invent a feature I haven't built, quote a price I haven't set, or promise something I can't do. If she isn't sure, she says so and offers to have me follow up. An AI on your front door that bluffs is worse than no AI at all — it writes cheques you have to bounce. So hers is wired to be honest before it's wired to be impressive.
There's a second quiet rule underneath it: the front door can never be dark. If Naledi's smarter brain ever has a bad moment, she falls back to a simpler built-in guide instead of throwing an error. Worst case, you get a slightly plainer Naledi — never a broken page. A front door that sometimes doesn't open isn't a front door.
Why this is the actual product
This isn't a gimmick I bolted onto a portfolio. It's a small, honest version of exactly what I build for clients: an AI wired into the funnel that qualifies, captures and routes — so a visitor becomes a conversation becomes revenue, without a human babysitting every step.
I ran it on my own site first because I don't like selling anything I haven't shipped for myself. The quote-to-cash system inside FieldForce takes real payments in production. The operator on this site takes real enquiries. Same principle, different size: build the thing all the way to the point where it works when money's on the line.
Go say hi to Naledi. Ask her something tricky. And if you've got a product that works but a front door that just sits there — that's the gap I engineer.
