Hans Rooseboom Art — Portfolio & Store

A portfolio and online store I built for Johannesburg fine artist Hans Rooseboom — selling originals, commissions and prints, with secure checkout, order receipts and a built-in social engine. Live at hansrooseboom.art.

The situation

A working fine artist needs to sell three very different things — one-of-one originals, commissions priced by conversation, and print-on-demand prints — without paying a hosted gallery-builder a monthly fee and a cut of every sale. The marketing strategy doc even recommended a hosted builder (Pixpa). The brief was to own the whole thing instead: the audience, the checkout and the data.

What I built

A custom hub site: a gallery portfolio, an originals shop with secure Stripe and Payfast checkout, a commissions enquiry flow priced per conversation, and print-on-demand in multiple sizes framed or unframed. Transactional email sends order receipts and enquiry alerts automatically. It also ships a small growth engine — an AI post generator with a social schema and Pinterest scheduling — so the artist can market consistently. The whole thing runs on Vercel Hobby plus Supabase's free tier at roughly R0/month, which deliberately leaves the entire budget for ads instead of tooling.

Highlights

  • Sells three product types — originals, commissions and prints — from one custom store
  • Dual checkout on Stripe and Payfast, with automated order-receipt and enquiry emails
  • Built-in AI post generator + Pinterest scheduling so the artist can market without an agency
  • ≈ R0/month infrastructure — a deliberate custom build over the strategy doc's hosted-builder recommendation, keeping the budget for ads
  • Tightened data access — revoked anon/authenticated grants on social tables
